Your data stays with you

The short version: everything you type into a CalcSpring calculator runs in your browser and never touches our servers. Here's what that means in practice.

How the calculators work

Every calculator on this site is written in plain JavaScript that runs directly in your browser tab. When you type a salary, a bill amount, a GPA, or retirement figures — that data is processed locally on your device. We don't have a server receiving those inputs and we don't store them anywhere.

There's no login system on CalcSpring. There are no user accounts. There's nothing to log in to.

Our approach follows best practices outlined by the FTC's privacy and security guidelines . For US federal privacy law context, see the American Data Privacy and Protection Act .

What our hosting provider does see

When you load any page on the web, the web server that delivers the HTML file gets a basic request log — your IP address, the URL you requested, a timestamp, and your browser type. Our hosting provider (Netlify) keeps standard access logs for security and reliability purposes. We don't sell or share those logs. We use aggregate, anonymized traffic data to understand which pages are popular.

None of that tells us what you typed into a calculator. It just tells us someone loaded the page.

Cookies and local storage

We don't use advertising cookies. We don't use tracking pixels. If an individual calculator saves a preference in your browser's localStorage — like remembering which grading scale you prefer — that data stays local. It's not synced anywhere and it's not tied to any identifier.

You can clear site data for calcspring.com at any time through your browser settings.

Third-party links

Some pages link to external sources — IRS publications, OPM guidance, that sort of thing. We don't control those sites and they have their own privacy policies. We try to only link to government sources or well-known references where we can.

Children

CalcSpring is a general-purpose tool site, not directed at children. We don't collect personal information from anyone, let alone minors. The GPA calculator gets used by a lot of students, which is fine — but if you're a parent concerned about a younger child using the site, there's genuinely nothing to worry about on our end.

Changes to this policy

If we add new features that change how data flows — like a newsletter, a feedback form, or anything that sends information to a server — we'll update this page before launching that feature. The date at the top will change when that happens.

Questions

If something here is unclear or you want to know more, just ask. The contact page is the place for that.
